Apere meaning river red gum tree in Arrernte language, is inspired by a birds-eye view of a beautiful gum tree along the barren desert landscape. The poured acrylic with the browns and oranges represents the branches and trunk of the tree, stabilising itself in the land and spreading it’s branches out.
The leaves are painted in beautiful greens with a tinge of blue to symbolise the capturing of water, with the community circles along the outside of the tree representing the people and animals gathering around the cool shade of the tree.
